Social media requires a new writing form

The world is full of words. This is absolutely true for the online world. But it is the essence of social media. Writing for social media requires a real shift in thinking. Here is my first think-challenge-list when writing for social media.

Audience: People or search?
Short form variety writing.
Two people are writing here: it's a conversation.
Writing for shares and comments.
There is good and bad and the yet to be typed.
Recognise peers and competitors.
It's collaborative and written in minutes.
Not a direct marketing channel.
Audience to audience not author to reader.
Needs consistent authentic engagement.
